Liposuction Surgery
Liposculpture
Liposculpture is an exciting cosmetic procedure that shapes the body silhouette into more attractive contours by the permanent removal to stubborn, disfiguring and unwanted fat deposits.
This method of fat removal, also known as body contouring or body sculpting is a far more refined version of liposuction. Liposculpture is not a substitute for losing weight but rather a method of reshaping the body to remove localised fat that is resistant to diets and exercise. The best candidates are those with a stable body weight in the ‘mid-weight’ range, good skin elasticity and in good physical health.
In many people, localised fat deposits are hereditary! This means even aerobics instructors and models may have small localised pockets of fat which can be carefully and skilfully evacuated by liposculpture.
In women, the most commonly treated areas are the abdomen (‘post-pregnancy tummy’), inner and outer thighs (‘saddlebags’), hips, buttocks, knees, upper arms and chin. The most frequently treated areas for men are the abdomen, flanks (‘love handles’) and breasts.
Liposculpture is performed in a day surgery under local anaesthetic using the new ‘state-of-the-art’ tumescent technique. A weak local anaesthetic tumescent solution is injected into the areas for fat removal. This special tumescent solution numbs the area, restricts bleeding and loosens the fat, facilitating its easy removal by vacuum suction. Strategically placed incisions allow the passage of a fine hollow metal tube or ‘cannula within the layer of fat, breaking it up and suctioning it out. Compared to traditional liposuction, modern tumescent liposculpture is extremely safe, less painful with a quicker recovery time.
Liposcultpure requires a high level of experience and technical skill, along with the artistic ability to create the desired form. The doctor takes a three-dimensional approach, sculpting certain areas so that they are more in proportion with the rest of the body. This means the doctor needs to be both a surgeon and an artist.
After surgery, the recovery time is quick and most patients can resume normal activity within 2-3 days after the procedure. It is important to wear an elastic compression garment for 2-4 weeks after the surgery. In the short term the garment will control bruising and swelling and in the longer term it will assist your skin to shrink smoothly over your new body contour.
Massage is also essential to enhance the long term cosmetic result as it stimulates skin elasticity, reduces swelling and prevents scar tissue formation. Despite bruising and swelling, improvement following liposculpture may be apparent immediately. In others, improvement may not be visible for 4-6 weeks after surgery. Hence, it is very important to be patient for your result as you will continue to improve for 6-12 months after the procedure.
Liposculpture can enhance your appearance and self-confidence enormously but it is important to have realistic expectations. It is impossible to guarantee the precise amount of improvement that will result. Furthermore, it is not possible, nor cosmetically or medically desirable to remove every fat cell in an area. The doctor must aim for a result that is going to be pleasing to the eye, carefully attempting to achieve your goals whilst working within the limitations of your natural muscle shape and bone structure.
Liposculpture does remove fat cells permanently and these do not grow back. Residual fat cells can swell, so it is important to exercise and maintain a healthy diet to preserve your new body contour. If you do gain weight, you will maintain your silhouette as the weight tends to be proportionately over the entire body.
Liposculpture is safer that ever, allowing rapid recovery and giving excellent cosmetic results.
